点评:The setting is superb. I walked up the blue signed path to the top of Armadale Hill and there were bluebells, foxgloves and spring growth bracken. There are panoramic views across the Sound of Sleat to the Knoydart Peninsular.
The gardens were full of mature specimen trees, and the romantic ruin of the castle where the famous Flora MacDonald was married. The lawns led down towards the sea with more splendid views. A special place.
The museum was laid out in chronological order and it takes time to read everything but it gives the history of the Lordship of the Is,es and the downfall of the Jacobites. And of course a glass that Bonnie Prince Charlie drank from.
It does need a touch of updating in keeping with contemporary views as there is more to Highland history than only Clan men and their deeds in battle.. Women and children were missing from this story.
The Stables cafe is nice and I understand the need for disposable plates and soup cups but it felt a little cheap. And I would have preferred my soup and tea out of china in such a pretty place.
