点评:This was an interesting visit.
Its a big field, surrounded by woods, with deep and not so deep holes in it, filled with grass.
Theres various signs up explaining points of interest - and a walking route around the field if you want to follow it.
Theres a visitors centre - single room - with a shop that sells some standard English Heritage stuff and a small exhibition area about flint and the mines in the field.
We were told there was an audio tour - but its not like audio tours at other English Heritage sites where it relates to what you are looking at - its more of a rambling podcast.
One of the mines has been opened up so you can go in to take a look around.
Its interesting - my teenager loved it.
The mine is not massive - this is not a series of explorable caves - its a main shaft with a few tunnels to crawl in.
The steps to get in are steep - people with mobility issues will struggle - one has to descend backwards. Theres no lift or wheelchair access in the mine - its far too small for that. We had not realised the entry into the mine was as it is - my wife with a leg issue had to wait in the car for that bit.
Our visit was about two hours in total - probably about twenty minutes in the mine itself.
Our two hours included about 15 minutes sat waiting as the mine was closed for an hour for lunch. This was not stated on the website so perhaps check ahead if timings matter for you.
The only toilets there are is a portaloo - we did not use it so can't comment.
