Housesteads Roman Fort - Hadrian's Wall的点评
点评：Easily accessible on the magical AD122 bus from Hexham, or by car, the Housesteads Fort - precariously situated on he side of a wind-buffeted hill with staggering views over Northumberland (and once upon a time Scotland) is exquisitely maintained by English Heritage.
I was lucky to arrive bang on the start of an 11am guided tour (included in the price) which gave over an hour of priceless insight into what’s visible, what isn’t, and why it’s all there.
Top spot is the remnants of the fort’s toilets, but there’s plenty of other history to soak in, from the tiny barracks to Hadrian’s Wall itself, which forms the back fortification of the fort.
If you like history - and let’s face it, you’re here… - then this is an absolute must-visit. Enjoy!
