Great, but more art needed, and better curation..
Sainsbury Centre的点评
点评：I've been meaning to visit the Sainsbury centre for years. My mother lives down in Suffolk. And to be honest East Anglia is a bit of a cultural desert. There are very few galleries of any value. Most 'art' galleries locally show the dreadful kind of overly colourful landscape duff-stuff that the middle class's value as decoratation for 'the cottage' darling. So finally it was great to be able to go to this more serious venue. We cycled to the centre from the city. The ride was easy and enjoyable. On arrival we were greated by the fields in front and a view down to the river, which was lovely. The outdoor sculptures are nice, though I always find outdoor sculpture incongruous. It would be worth one of the curators putting some time into trying to re-imagine how they could be more apprecatied...
The building was cool. The staff we spoke to were lovely too. It is generally a calm and inviting space. All the paintings and drawings in the collection great and well presented. I was'nt too sure of the way they had hung a Giacometti painting, viewed from below from a lay-back chair. But, my son loved it and I could see its purpose. The other artifacts and indoor sculptures were all lovely. I went around and around that show about five times.
The temporary show about the sea or something was generally very good, we liked the short film with the blobs on the beach. And the etching on the venetion blind. The curation was OK.. it seemed a little tired maybe. The lower, inaccesible floor seemed empty and redundant which seemed a shame. Generally, It could do with more, there is a lot of empty space. But all in, great. And the cafe made a superior tea, always a benefit.
