Cyclists Not Welcome
Sainsbury Centre的点评
点评：Having visited the Sainsbury Centre previously I know that there are two main problems: 1. It's on a University Campus so best visited outside of term time & 2. Car parking nearby is almost non existent. So thinking the best option to travel there would be by bicycle, I and two friends, who had not visited before, decided to cycle the 150 mile round trip from near Cambridge and enjoy the building and a well earned Sunday lunch.
However upon arrival we discoverd that there are no cycle racks, let alone secure cycle facilities, near the building where we could safely leave our bicycles unattended. The side cafe at the back of the building with a few outside tables and chairs only served sandwices and drinks. We wanted a hot meal but the main restaurant at the front of the buidling had no outside seating. Taking our bicycles inside was quickly ruled out by the appearance of a member of security who told us they were not allowed in the building but we could leave them outside where we could keep an eye on them through the glass windows. Taking the bikes outside a second member of staff told us we couldn't leave the bikes against the building since it was listed and designed by Norman Foster! A fact we were well aware of since we all work in design and architecture which was why we were there. Having no choice we left and found a more welcoming facility nearby where they were happy to serve us our Sunday lunch. Some enlightened facilities offer cyclists parking and padlocks, why can't the Sainsbury Centre?
