A living museum done right! Worth the drive up from Portree along the coast. Plus Hairy Coos

点评：Our visit to the Museum of Island Life on the Isle of Skye was a truly enchanting step back in time! This charming open-air museum offers an authentic glimpse into traditional Highland life, and it completely exceeded our expectations.
The museum consists of a collection of beautifully preserved thatched cottages that showcase how crofters lived on Skye over 100 years ago. Walking through these blackhouses, we could see the original furnishings, tools, and everyday items that tell the story of a simpler but incredibly resilient way of life. The attention to detail in preserving these structures is remarkable, and you can really feel the history in every corner.
One of the absolute highlights of our visit was meeting the adorable Highland cows (the famous "hairy coos") grazing nearby! These gentle giants are actually bullies 🐮 with their long, shaggy coats and sweet expressions were an absolute delight to photograph. Getting up close to these iconic Scottish animals was a magical experience and added such a special touch to our museum visit. They're just as friendly and photogenic as we'd hoped!
The museum's setting is simply stunning, with views across to the Outer Hebrides and the beautiful Skye landscape all around. The peaceful atmosphere and the sound of the wind through the grass transport you to another era entirely.
The staff and volunteers were wonderfully knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the island's heritage. They were happy to answer questions and share stories about life in the old crofting communities.
Allow at least an hour to fully explore and soak in the atmosphere. Highly recommend!
