Stratfield Saye House的点评
点评：We went to Apsley House (the Duke of Wellington's London pad) earlier in the year and found out that Stratfield Saye was his country house. The website explained that it is only open for guided tours at certain times of the year, August being one of them - so we booked! And I am so glad that we did!
The guide was very knowledgeable and entertained as well as educated us. Being a private home, indoor photography is not allowed. However, the grounds and the other buildings can be photographed. Apsley House is full of images of the Iron Duke, and it was good to hear that he did not like having images of himself all over the place. He considered it vanity - and we would agree. So here there are far fewer images of the man - though plenty of others, including the part of the Spanish Royal Collection that is not in Apsley House (good story behind that too). The funeral car is a revelation - I have never seen anything like it! So many stories about the man, but also about his successors, and the links to the Roman Silchester site and others.
