点评:Easily located the entrance to the estate by following the directions given. Plenty of car parking and some grass where you can perhaps have a picnic. We had booked a 2.15 tour, and had time beforehand to see the State coach and visit the museum which included Wellingtons massive and very heavy funeral carriage. The tour itself was led by two knowledgable guides. There were only ten of us in the group so it felt quite ‘special’. It was a pleasure to visit a house such as Stratfield Saye which is still a family home and this gave it a very different vibe to national trust properties which often feel akin to museums. And there wasn’t a fir cone in sight! We were led through a variety of rooms both on the ground and first floors. It was interesting to learn that the duke attended a military academy in France and there were various items of French furniture in the house. There were also many paintings and the guides had a very good knowledge of them - to the extent that I eventually.went into information overload. Being on the 2.15 tour, we had expected it to finish around 3.30 which would have given us time to enjoy tea and cake in the cafe. Unfortunately, the tour didn’t end until 16.10 and by that time we were both beginning to feel in need of a rest and sustenance. However, the cafe closed at 4.00, so we were disappointed to have missed out on an afternoon treat. So my only suggestion for the future is that tours should perhaps last no more than one and a half hours.
