点评:We booked Thursday - Sunday camping for Bug Jam 39, paying extra to arrive on the Thursday afternoon and extra for Electric Hook Up for our campervan. Despite the additional payment you can't arrive until after 2pm on the Thursday. There doesn't appear to be any EHU within the disabled camping area, so you have to go in to the General Camping area, which is further away from the toilets, showers and medical centre. On the subject of showers, forget it if you are wheelchair bound and need carer assistance. There are disabled toilets, but the ones near the medical centre and Fuellers bar have seen better days although kept mostly clean. The newer ones in the block behind the pairing lanes is better, but a real challenge to get in to as there is insufficient room at the top of the ramp for a carer to get past the wheelchair to open the door (outwards). Radar key entry be beneficial for upkeep too. The paths at the top of the spectator banking and the ramp down to Fuellers bar, and the accessible parking area are very rough for wheelchairs to traverse, but glad to see the two steps have been removed from bottom of ramp.
On Friday there was security at the disabled viewing area challenging people with no apparent disability. By Friday afternoon the security guard had completely lost interest and looked like he could barely stay awake, allowing large families with prams and pushchairs and large camping trollies to take space that should be reserved for people with mobility issues. There was no visible security there at all on Saturday and Sunday, arguably the busiest days!
The seats on the viewing platform are set too far back too, so you can't properly see the start or finish line, especially when people come and stand against the fence in front of you.
Despite all of the above we thoroughly enjoyed Bug Jam. It is a thoroughly well organised event with excellent entertainment and food/drink options and also plenty of reasonably priced trade stands to peruse. The staff that check your tickets and help you get sited are excellent.
Would we go again?
Probably, but we feel that the above are all issues that need addressing for an ever increasing disabled persons attendance to events like these.
