点评:This archeological museum consists of three floors in the old Abbey of St. Benigne. It is located right next to the Dijon Cathedral so is easy to visit but also easy to overlook. I really liked the architecture of the abbey and it is worthwhile visiting just for that. There is a display on the Abbey rotunda which is interesting.
The bottom level (originally the chapter house and scriptorium) is quite atmospheric and contains exhibits associated with the Gallo-Roman goddess Sequana, goddess of the river Seine, though it took some time to understand the significance. The first level, the monks' dormitory, exhibits Romanesque religious sculptures from various Bourgogne churches. On the last level there are artifacts from paleolithic to the Merovingian periods. The prehistory collection isn't as extensive as I have seen elsewhere but the Gallo-Roman and, especially, the religious artifacts were quite good.
When we visited there was a small medieval fair outside the museum which I also liked and is what drew our attention to what can be an overlooked museum. Free.
