Pacific Rim National Park Reserve的点评
点评：There are 3 sections to the Pacific Rim NP
1. North: Willowbrae Road to Radar Hill Road
2. Middle: Broken Group Islands
3. South: West Coast Trail
Most visitors end up in #1, which can be visited all year round. Scenery is mostly sandy beaches with driftwood, backed up against a coastal temperate rainforest with lichens and moss and ferns.
#2 is better explored (by kayak, canoe, or wildlife cruises) during summer, when the temperature is warmer and water is less stormy.
#3 is a multiday hike that requires a permit, though day trip may be possible from selected gateways but limited in traversing area.
Park entry fees are based on # individuals. Ticket validity extends till the next day 4 pm. Therefore, it is to your benefit to buy the day pass ticket as early as possible on Day 1 so that you get almost two days worth of park privilege for the price of one. You can easily walk all the trails within #1 with a day pass. With a purchased pass, all parking are then free within the NP grounds
The best hikes within #1 include:
* Willowbrae Trail - Half Moon Bay
* Wickaninish Beach - Kwisitis Visitor Center - South Beach - Nuu Chah Nulth Trail - Florencia Bay
* Long Beach - Incinerator Rock - Schooners Beach and Cove
* Canso Plane Crash Site
Dogs are not allowed in the southern section of the park during spring time. Apparently, this is where many of the elusive coastal wolves are denning with pups. The wolves are however deep in the woods so it is very unlikely to ever spot them. But dogs can sniff them out which is why they are banned. Though I think I saw a fresh dropping of one while hiking towards Half Moon Bay.
Cox Bay Beach, Chesterman Beach, Mackenzie Beach, and Tonquin Beach are outside the boundary of Pacific Rim NP. Therefore, they are subject to different fee structure ($3 Cad per hour parking)
