Largest, but least interpretive.
Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park的点评
点评：This site should give thanks to the small display at the Flint Riverquarium for sharing of them, or maybe vice versa for architectural influence. Our family road trip stopped into this largest mound culture site in GA to find it open, but with little interpretation going on. The store was the largest interpretive experience for my family since the museum was closed for repairs. The 6th grader I was with had questions about the historic living structure near the parking lot, which made its presence welcoming. However, the drive and walk to the base of the largest temple mound was rather uninspiring to the family. I had to keep reminding modern humans, my family, that the mound was made without metal tools-machines. It would’ve been nicer if the young person collecting our entrance fee and/or signage along the shaded trail to the front of the mound may have provided some stimulating questions/information over the site/environment. Yes, there’s signage at the base of the mound’s steps, but by the time get to that location, the inspiration to “conquer” the steps to the summit is more powerful than reading something. It’s a challenge competing with the location and more resources of say the Ocmulgee site, but I hope managers of this site will continue to strive in improving the importance of interpreting this special place. In saving places like this, we are competing with the modern human experience where landfills and high school football fields are bigger than this temple mound. Thus, interpreting well these sites is crucial.
