点评:I previously visited the museum in 2009 and had a great time. I've been wanting to go back since they did an expansion a couple years ago, and especially to see one of the days when the sawmill was in operation. I made it back for their Fall 2024 sawmill run weekend.
The main museum building has informative displays about the history of Pennsylvania's logging industry. There is an extensive collection of structures on the site showcasing parts of a logging camp, including a Shay locomotive and Brookville switcher engine. Don't miss the Eastern Loggers HO model railroad, which was featured in Model Railroader magazine.
The highlight of this trip was seeing the sawmill in operation. With the boiler going, the steam-powered engines and a maze of belts drove a collection of saws the workers used to convert raw logs into a series of boards. It was great to see everything in operation and well worth the 4.5-hour trip.
Altogether, I spent about 2.5 hours at the museum. It's a great way to spend the afternoon.
