点评:Beautiful quant village. Lovely to see so many different styles of architecture, as over 30 architects were hired to build the village. The volunteers who work at the public buildings, such as the museum and the workers cottage were all so friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the village. There was a young man called James, who was on work experience, as he has an interest in history and he was so polite and confident with the public. An assest to the village. The film they show, on the history of the village, in the museum is very insightful and interesting.
Lord Lever, who built the village for his employees, was a pioneer, as he believed in quality housing, education and free health care for his staff. We spent a good 5 hours during our day, visited the art gallery, the museum, the church where Lord and Lady Lever are buried, saw the war memorial too. There's plenty of places to eat and lots of picnic areas to use. Sadly, the fountain was closed, as it needs some renovation work done, but this will hopefully be back in operation soon.
Was amazed at how clean and open the village was and love the sense of community that still exists here, with the volunteer schemes.
Would definitely recommend a visit here as we had an amazing day.
