POLGOON VINEYARD VISIT FOR LOVELY WINE

点评：Monday 16th June 2025, My husband and I decided to go to visit the Polgoon Vineyard, and if possible sample some wine.
The Polgoon Story is that after many years trading as fish merchant’s John & Kim Coulson decided they needed a new adventure. After meeting an award winning Cornish winemaker they decided to plant vines and create their own Cornish Vineyard. From their first wine harvest in 2006, they created the first ‘Polgoon’ wine and were subsequently awarded the Trophy for ‘Best Still Rose’ in the UK.
The next two harvests also won major national contributions. Unfortunately, after these early successes, Polgoon suffered terrible harvests in 2007 and 20008 after enduring Cornish weather conditions, leaving almost no wine. Determined not to be beaten, the Coulson’s perfected a Cornish cider called ‘Aval’ (Cornish for apple), a sparkling cider product made using the same method as French winemakers to produce sparkling wines.
Polgoon then added a further product their range, namely Raspberry Aval, which won a Gold Medal in 2009. During 2012, a company led by Kim’s sister invested in Polgoon and created Polgoon Vineyard & Orchard. This empowered them to continue to expand into the successful vineyard of 2025.
My husband and I did not bother with a tour round the vineyard as we went on one back in 2017. We visited the wine shop; where we met a lovely French girl called Claire. We were unable to sample any wines. However, we did purchase a bottle of Seyval Blanc white wine, a bottle of Rondo Rose wine and a bottle of Strawberry wine.
It is well worth visiting here if you are in the area.
