点评:Davide was recommended to us by an exacting traveler friend, and we have no qualms about recommending him further. He spoke perfect conversational English (and other languages), which we really appreciated; was immensely well informed on a number of subjects including Etna eruption history, flora and fauna; and answered all but one of our questions readily and completely. (The one question he couldn't answer? He researched it and sent us the answer later by email!)
As a volunteer rescue worker, safety is his high priority. My wife was particularly impressed that he noticed her scuba diver necklace and made sure that we had not been underwater within a safe amount of time.
Included in this tour was a visit to a small family-run agriturismo on the north slopes of Etna. What a delightful time! We happened to arrive on the first day of harvest, and we were able to watch them hand-pick the earliest grapes into yellow baskets (don't know if they were Nerello or Carricante). We got to taste five of the family's delicious wines along with a "typical' Sicilian lunch cooked by Mari; salame, homemade pecorino cheese and olives, bread, frittata, fusilli with pork sausage, espresso, and almond cookies. What a feast!
