UFO Watchtower的点评
点评：Family and I (two adults, five kids aged 3 months to 10 years old) took a month long road trip to Colorado and back in Summer of 2022. Saw this place listed on Roadside America and knew that we had to stop, especially since we were driving right past it on our way to the national park.
If you're looking for an impressive structure, this isn't it, it's a one story high steel tower that looks like its part of a set of high school bleachers. If you want a vast museum, this isn't it either, it's in a little dome shaped building. If you're looking for strong scientific research and large, well organized displays, well, this isn't it either.
But if you want an offbeat spot to stretch your legs, some interesting stories, friendly folks that work in the gift shop, and to explore a place clearly built with a lot of love over the years, then pay the $5 a head (under 6 was free, which was half my kids) to climb the tower and wander around the vortex garden to see what interesting things that folks have left here. My older kids were a little freaked out, but the five year old got into the spirit of it and found one of his little toys to leave there.
Only disappointment is that I wish we'd scheduled our trip a little differently so that we could have camped here one night and then one night at the national park, which would have given us an extra day in Great Sand Dunes.
PRO TIP - Didn't think of it until we were getting back in the car, but if you Geocache, there is one in the garden (we emptied the car back out to find it, we cannot confirm if any of the signatures are from alien cachers).
