点评：I guess I had a good trip as I'm giving a lot of 5-star reviews, and I am not prone to do that- I like a nice distribution, with 5-10% 1, 5-10% 2, maybe 20% 3, 40-50% 4, and no more than about 20% 5- historically, I think I'm more like 10%. Something has to really rock me to get a 5, while I like to think my spider senses keep me from places I would give a 1 or 2 to, or even a 0 if that were possible. I do like to stray a little from the beaten path, so there are duds here and there, but this was not one of them.
While the usual websites are vague, it appears construction of the chateau by Guillaume Gouffier began in the late 15th century, and the chateau, although in what was considered the sticks at the time, came into its own in the 16th century, from whence the bulk of the fascinating architecture and a lot of the artwork came in. However, more recent influences have made this one of the most eclectic sites I've come across: in Hollywood terms, it would be something like "Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum meets The House on the Rock."
Lots of science mixed with art; lots of sculptures that leave one pretty certain that hallucinogens are alive an well in the art community in the Loire Valley. Some of them are actually a little frightening, but it is fascinating to see the range of human expression.
There are a lot of photos of this attraction, many redundant, but I did not see a fascinating map ampong them, so I am including.
