Great exhibits - awkward location
Deutsches Panzermuseum Munster的点评
点评：Fabulously curated smallish tank museum (compared to Bovington / UK for example), but it has some exhibits which you will not find anywhere else. Notably the “Sturmmörser“ tank which my son really wanted to see. There is only one more and it’s in Russia. For visitors with an interest in military history and machinery this is a great museum to visit.
I would have given it 5 stars were it not for the lack of ambition to make it easy to visit and provide decent refreshments. They don’t have a cafe, only a small corner in the museum’s shop where you can buy terrible coffee and sweets. Given that Munster and the immediate area around the museum is a bit dead, it would be really helpful to serve decent coffee and food - maybe some sandwiches, a bit of cake. Military museums tend to have parties with at least one member whose interest does not match that of the rest of the group. They need a coffee shop. For now - best to bring your own refreshments and food.
If you don’t have a car, this place is currently very hard to get to. You will probably end up in Uelzen which offers insufficient and badly organised train replacement buses (repairs on the train tracks which will take a long time). We ended up having to take a taxi to and from Uelzen, even shared with a family in the same situation, it cost us EUR 170,- The trip to the museum is only about 30 minutes. It’s extortion. I did actually call the museum to point out to them that every foreign (or local - we are Germans) visitor stranded in Uelzen will have difficulties navigating the transport. I suggested they contact the station management for better sign posting, at the very least. I was met with regrettable indifference and defeatism, which probably also explains the absence of a coffee shop. This little gem of a museum deserves better!
