Flint Institute Of Arts Museum + Art School的点评
点评：Even though the art museums in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Windsor are closer for me, in many respects, I like Flint's best. This is the museum that got me to open my eyes to modern art. Maybe it's because their collection isn't as big as the DIA, it feels less daunting. Maybe it's also because the quality of their collection really is top drawer. Their pre-20th century American and European art (always my favorite) is also top drawer. Lithographs are also great.
They have Asian, African, and Americas (native) art too. They've added a large area for glass. Those galleries don't have as much appeal for me, but they're still enjoyable.
The special exhibits often surprise me. Probably half the time I think I don't want to see them. But when I do, I'm always glad I did. Their video art rotates and is nearly always fun or fascinating.
The cafeteria is a great place to take a break for a sandwich or beverage. The shop has a wide variety of art, art-related goods & supplies, and souvenirs. I've bought a lot of unique gifts there over the years--and if Flint isn't near for you, you can shop on-line.
Here was an added bonus for me: When I was taking care of an aging parent, this was a very easy museum to visit. The parking is at the door (front & rear). If she got hungry, good food. If she got tired, easy to leave.
