Spectacular Mexico trip! Wonderful rivers, and a fascinating cultural immersion.

点评：Just spent two spectacular weeks paddling in Mexico with Jim Coffey and Oscar Colorado of Esprit! Absolutely wonderful experience, just like the Costa Rica trip I took with them a few years ago…
The rivers were wonderful: crystal-clear water, surrounded by lush jungle, or by deep basaltic canyons with giant over-hanging ferns. Especially enjoyed hiking to a couple of put-ins, with horses carrying our kayaks 🤣. Jim is a great river guide, and there are rapids for every taste, including lovely waterfalls with soft landings.
But, beyond the rivers, the trip offered a wonderful immersion into the real, colorful Mexico that most tourists never see. Villagers riding donkeys laden with coffee and thatch; Christmas processions with bands and statues; quaint cobblestone streets; undiscovered beaches…
Great food: Jim is a spectacular cook. His Mexican-style salmon a la piña is a masterpiece! As are the camarones enchipotlados. And he is very careful about sanitation: unlike some visitors to Mexico, I had absolutely no stomach issues.
The accommodation in Jalcomulco is very cute (see my review of “Los Alcatraces”). And, when traveling in the wilds of rural Mexico, our lodgings were rustic, but always had character. Think cabins set on a bluff above the river, or old haciendas complete with a chapel.
Bottom line: can’t wait to take the next trip with Jim and Esprit!
