Hakodate Museum of Northern Peoples的点评
点评:We decided to visit the Museum which is just 50 m ahead of Tram station we alight at Suehiro-cho.
It is located in the former Bank of Japan Hakodate Branch building of 1926 and has exhibits covering two floors. We paid 500 Yen for 2 museums, the other being former British Consulate.
The museum mainly focuses on the history of the Ainu people, with many display & exhibits such as clothing, hunting equipment, and leather boats actually used by the Ainu people. In one of the rooms there is even black-white video of the Ainu people, probably taken in the 1950s or earlier!
We are not new to the Ainu culture, having visited other Hokkiado museums in Asahikawa and the Upopoy but it all adds to our understanding of the earliest inhabitants of this lovely Island.
We ended up buying some souvenirs at the small counter near entrance. They were exquisite and making the purchasing is also helping to contribute the Ainu, in another form.!
