点评:Namibia is obviously trying to destroy its tourist industry. We were victims of the new visa rules for Westerners.
Since January you need a costly visa to enter Namibia. We tried to enter into Namibia at Sendlingsdrif using the „visa upon arrival“ method. It turned out that the border post there does not allow that and we were told to take a 3.5 hour detour to Oranjemond. In view of the catastrophic road conditions this was not an option and we decided to forego our planned (and paid for) trip to the Fish River Canyon altogether. Under the current conditions we are not likely to visit Namibia ever again - a pity since we have always loved to go there.
Btw: we are not alone in our experience. The staff on the South African side at Sendlingsdrif volunteered that since the new visa rules came into effect the cross-border traffic has slowed massively. „That is bad for our business as well“ was the comment.
