点评:In terms of English Heritage's properties on the Isle of Wight Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle are no doubt on everyone's list of places to visit and rightly so. However don't forget to stop by this hidden gem in Yarmouth as well which provides a history of Henry VIII's fortifications against the French of which Yarmouth Castle was the last one to be built. There is also interesting information on nearby wrecks that occurred in the 'Yarmouth Roads' a treacherous stretch of the Solent where many a ship met its sad demise. You can also enjoy splendid views across the Solent from the gun platform and, an added bonus for some, is the Wightlink ferry berths right next to the castle and you get great views of this too! The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful which also adds to the visitor experience. The castle doesn't take long to visit and is dog friendly and you can take your dog with you everywhere within the castle. There isn't a cafe at the castle so, if you wanted to have a picnic on the gun platform, don't forget to bring your own food. There is a small shop which is well worth a browse as they have some interesting souvenirs as well as some local, and non local, food and drink for sale. There is nearby parking in the town only a short walk away but this is limited. However there is a large pay and display car park just outside the main town also a relatively short walk away as well.
