点评:This place is gorgeous. Great views, and isolated from the general hustle and bustle that dilutes the experience over at Fort Worden in Port Townsend. We visited the coastal batteries and historical museum as part of a day trip and spend three hours here. Battery Wansboro is kind of off on its own and has its own parking lot, the other batteries you walk to from the bathrooms area. The coastal bluff trail is pretty long, with elevation changes (particularly going down to Battery Lee), so bring water. There is also virtually no cell phone signal out at Fort Flagler, so be prepared with offline maps. To make the most of the fort's preserved structures, bring a little headlamp with you - some of the tunnels and semi-underground passageways are dark, and have birds nesting in them, and you'll want to see them coming if you disturb them! The historic portion was up there with Fort Casey for best preserved and most accessible fortifications in the US, and I've been to many of them on both coasts. The museum is a highlight as well, it's very informative and takes maybe 30-45 minutes to read through, but I was particularly impressed by the everyday objects they'd acquired to demonstrate how multi-functional & self-sufficient the fort had to be before there were roads crossing over to Marrowstone Island. Early aerosol sprayers, early Bissel carpet sweeps & lawnmowers, a functional sound-powered phone set that you can actually try with people on the other side of the building, plus oddities like a washing machine that doubled as a butter churn, massive steel anti-torpedo netting from the water, and spent bazooka cartridges excavated by the park's staff. Really just fascinating. And free, if memory serves. Bring a camera, comfy shoes, water, and a headlamp and make sure your phone is charged - this place is a blast.
