点评:We’re National Trust members and Seaton Delaval Hall is right on our doorstep, so it’s somewhere we’re lucky enough to visit regularly. We’ve been several times over the summer – sometimes as a family, sometimes with the kids and their grandparents, and sometimes all together with the grandparents – and we’ve had a great experience every time.
The staff and volunteers are always incredibly kind, welcoming and friendly. Even when it’s busy, they’re helpful and approachable.
There’s been plenty to keep both our 2-year-old and 7-year-old entertained during the school holidays. They’ve taken part in the circus games, with the bubble man, football and other ball games, enjoyed playing on the haystacks, and spent lots of time exploring the hall and playing in the park. The summer passport was also a big hit – they were very proud to collect all of the stickers!
Much to my 7-year-old’s disappointment, there was no chalk for the board in the play park 😂, so we’ll remember to take some in our bag next time.
We usually take a picnic with us, but we’ve also occasionally had an ice cream or coffee from the café. The prices are what you’d expect from the National Trust, but we don’t mind paying a little extra when we know it’s supporting a good cause.
Parking is easy and free, although I’m not sure whether the free parking applies to everyone or just National Trust members. On 31st August, the car park was the busiest we’ve ever seen it, but staff were doing a brilliant job of directing and ushering cars, so everything was very well managed. Despite it being so busy, it didn’t feel particularly crowded once inside, although there was a longer wait than usual at the café. Again, the staff were brilliant.
The toilets and baby changing facilities are also really good, which makes such a difference when visiting with young children.
Dogs aren’t allowed inside the hall, so when visiting as a family with our dog, we simply take turns going around the hall while the other person stays outside with the dog.
Overall, we think National Trust membership is great value for money, and Seaton Delaval Hall is definitely somewhere we get our money’s worth from. It’s a lovely place for a family day out, with plenty to keep children of different ages entertained, and being so close to home means we can pop in regularly rather than feeling like we have to make a whole day of it.
We’ll definitely be back!
