My friend had organised a birthday day out at Elk Motorsport with a party of 9 (plus some onlookers who weren't brave enough to join). I think this was booked out as a private event at £60pp.
The safety protocols were clear in the animation that was shown to us – I wasn't sure if the girl who spoke to us was nervous or not, but she raced through her safety speech super quickly!
Most of the drivers were first time carters (including myself). At first I was a bit nervous as I was really worried about spinning out, but I gained more confidence the more the race went on.
Two racers left the group due to illness and a crash. The marshals were attentive and fair and kept a close watch on us all. Even in the 30 degree heat, it didn't actually feel bad in the suits once you're going round. We were all given bottles of water at the end which was appreciated.
It was a clean environment inside the reception and the toilets. You also have to pay an extra £5 for a balaclava, gloves and helmet hire.
I really enjoyed myself! There is a leaderboard inside that displays everyone's times and shows the fastest laps for the day. I would love to come back. I think the price was fair as there were quite a lot of staff on the scene.
