点评:You simply MUST do this! It was so, so cool! Find out in advance when the ranger will begin the free talk before the bats come out. We didn't know, but thankfully got there at the perfect time. She and the other ranger on site were both so helpful, knowledgeable, and kind, staying on site afterwards too to answer all our questions. The whole thing was honestly a near-mystical experience: as soon as the first bat or two are spotted at sunset, the ranger immediately gets quiet, and the whole amphitheater watches in silence as a few bats, and then dozens, and then hundreds start flying out. By the time we left, we had to have seen tens of thousands of them (hundreds of thousands of bats can apparently be seen in the summer, but we were there in the second half of October). And two great horned owls swooped through too, going after the bats! It was all so amazing!!! If you're in town for the Caverns as we were, book a morning hike in but definitely do the free bat experience the evening before! (Or if you miss it the evening before and can stay in town later the same day as your hike into the Caverns, definitely do.) We weren't sure in advance if we should just go out to dinner at that time, but we're both so, so grateful we decided to go to this instead!
