点评:My wife and I camped here in our 10’ x 10’ tent for 4 nights in April 2024. The forest is lovely - large oaks and hickories provide plenty of shade in the area we chose (and the site was correctly listed as shaded on the reservation form we used a half-year before we came).
It was disappointing that only one shower house with flush toilets and running water was available for the entire campground at this large park. We chose a campsite not far from an outhouse, which was stinky when we arrived but kept clean, thanks to the staff. Time to upgrade with a few more shower houses, Missouri! In contrast, the campsite had plenty of hydrants with good water. Yay for that.
Camping in our tent was a tad uncomfortable, but we managed. Even in the campground section designed for tent trailers and tents, there are few more-or-less level places to pitch a tent. If you have a tent trailer, you’ll be fine because most, if not all, sites have level concrete pads for tent trailers. But you can’t pound tent stakes into concrete, and the unpaved areas in most shaded sites are not even enough and/or not large enough for a modest family tent. This can be fixed, Missouri! Do something nice for us tent campers.
Another recommendation: provide a readable trail map that *clearly* shows all park roads so that walking and hiking options are easier to identify. (Who prepared that confusing and crowded trail map, and who authorized its publication?) I wanted to take a few brief walks to enjoy the trees, birds, and wildflowers but couldn’t figure out where to start. I visited the Visitor Center … but it’s closed on Tuesdays.
Good online reservation system; even changing the dates was simple. How about providing a “tent friendliness” rating for each site on a 1-5 basis? The photos aren’t large enough to enable potential to judge whether the site accommodates a tent. (You have interns and volunteers who might do this, right?)
