点评:This was a very interesting tour of two different buildings. The tour cost $5 per person and starts in the visitors center. Also in this building are several rooms of things to learn about, so come a bit before the tours start (10, 12:30 and 2:30) and explore the smaller rooms of items. The Pommer-Gentner House is a brick home built in 1840. Before moving here, they were makers of violins. They continued making instruments and made pianos here also. They lived in one side of the building and the business was in the other. On display are two original pianos. One was restored and returned here, the other was probably made in the room it is displayed in and will remain as is.
About a half block up the other home is the Strehly House built about 1842 and is timber frame . It was lived in by the same family for over 100 years and most of the furnishings are from that family. In the house space, the first newspaper west of St. Louis was published under the house in the basement. There was an addition of a winery. We were not able to go into the basement but were able to see the stairs that the barrels came up and were able to be placed on the wagons that would line up at the double exit doors. On the main floor had a collection of tools from the winery, an intricately carved barrel, and other items of the wine industry. There is an arbor of grapevines behind the building that is over 100 years old and still active.
