点评:Just did 9 dives on the Coolidge and you need about that many to see the main highlights of the wreck, especially with some of them being relatively deep dives so you’re a bit limited for the subsequent dives those days (Million Dollar Point is an ideal 2nd or 3rd dive of the day after the deeper Coolidge spots).
Don’t think you can pop into Santo for a weekend and see it all - I was diving every day for six days. Add on a no-dive day before flying and you need a week.
Love the fact she’s still so intact given the friendly mines only did isolated damage (unlike some of the wrecks at Truk, Coron, even Guadalcanal where some ships were badly damaged by bombs or torpedoes and/or have subsequently broken up.
And it’s great there’s still so much heavy equipment and other booty still in the holds.
Downside is there used to be so much more, including thousands of coke bottles, items of crockery, etc. etc. but over the decades inconsiderate divers have taken “just one souvenir” with the usual result there’s little or nothing left for future divers to enjoy… as with all wrecks.
My awesome dive guides from Pacific Dive have been diving the Coolidge for 25+ years and say back then there was so much more to see throughout the ship.
At least some of the late Allan Power’s “booty” and trophy items are now in the South Pacific WWII Museum in town for us all to see, courtesy of his estate.
