点评:It is both admirable and totally understandable why there is such an effort to preserve Jewish history in German. Speyer has a very checkered past with the Jewish faith both good and bad, but Jews had a history here worth sharing. My own home, the American South, has its own difficulty with slavery. However, the ruins of synagogue and ceremony bath house show that there was a thriving Jewish history in this community. While the holocaust and other medieval periods are blemishes on the history of Speyer and Germany, there are actually periods in history where the people and Cathedral of Speyer worked to protect their Jewish community from attacks.
The main thing you come to see here is a ceremonial Jewish bathhouse that was used as a sacred place for Jewish women. In addition, you see the former location of a Jewish Synagogue. However, it is the bathhouse that is most intact and impressive historic feature. Part of the reason it probably survived for as long as it did was that it was underground in a courtyard. Still the size and functioning of the bathhouse is impressive.
As a visitor, it is great to see these places preserved and recognized by Germany. If you visit Speyer, like the Cathedral, I strongly recommend you visit this place.
