点评：I’ve been coming here for years as it’s only 20 minutes from my house. The views are incredible, the walks into Castleton are brilliant, and it’s always been a great spot to support the local pubs and cafes.
However, over the past 6 months, the situation with visitor behavior and parking has gone massively downhill. The narrow rural roads are being completely gridlocked by people double-parking on tight bends just to set up picnic spots and take photos.
Worse than the traffic is the complete lack of safety and respect for the countryside. I’ve literally watched people roll large stones off the top of the hills straight down onto the live road below, which is wildly dangerous. On top of that, there’s been a massive spike in left-behind rubbish and disposable BBQ burn marks scorched into the grass. The whole lane has essentially turned into an unmanaged photo set and playground rather than a respected walking trail.
It’s a beautiful place, but if the council or national park authorities don't start managing the dangerous parking and anti-social behavior soon, it’s fast on its way to becoming another ruined, overcrowded spot like the Dovedale Stepping Stones.
