点评：The lovely walk through the Aare Gorge can be started from either the Aareschlucht Ost or Aareschlucht West railway station. Unless you’re driving, it’s an easy short train ride from Meiringen. We started at Ost as the walk in this direction is more downhill.
After paying the entrance fee, there are different walking options. If your main aim is to experience the gorge itself, the shorter route is sufficient. The gorge stretches for around 1.4 km and the walk through it takes roughly 45 minutes. The extraordinary rock formations, carved by the Aare over millions of years, are a sight to behold.
Much of the route follows wooden and metal walkways that hug the rock face, with tunnels and the rushing river below. Despite the dramatic surroundings, the path through the gorge itself is straightforward and allows you to concentrate on the scenery.
At the other end there is the customary shop and a café. From there, a lovely walk of around 20 minutes, passing through a scenic village, takes you towards the Reichenbach Falls funicular, or you can simply take the train back to Meiringen. The gorge and Reichenbach Falls are also officially promoted as an easy combination for a day out.
For those with more time and energy, another option is to take the Reichenbach funicular up and then walk roughly 40 minutes to Gasthaus Zwirgi. From there, a PostBus provides a convenient way back to Meiringen.
A beautiful and very manageable excursion, with spectacular geology and plenty of options for turning the gorge walk into a longer day exploring the area.
