点评:Apologies that this review is so long but it needs to be said for others benefit. I am not going to beat around the bush as I am blunt and to the point, whether it hurts, offends or annoys. I am only being honest with my opinion especially if I have paid a lot of money for a service. I am deeply saddened and disgusted by our recent experience here and I have learnt a very expensive and valuable lesson. I am being generous in giving 2 stars as I was only going to give just 1 star but just before leaving the establishment we had a great experience at breakfast as our host was beyond perfect and she did an amazing job. I did not catch her name (eastern european) but she needs recognition as she was so nice. The visit was not a total disaster so I will start with the positives. Time with the wife, beautiful location/scenery, awoken by nature, nice staff, delicious food, comfy bed (apart from headboard), thats about it! Initially I was given a tour voucher as a gift from our daughter as I love my ales and we have visited other breweries/distilleries in the past including Guinness in Dublin. As we live 127 miles away from here and alcohol was involved it made a lot of sense to stay over and make some nice memories as a couple. (I will get to the accomodation in a moment). Regarding the tour, I will sum it up in one word...rubbish! Our host Nick was a knowledgable, friendly professional gent who was clearly passionate about his job and he definitely knew about the products he was showing us. We started off in the beautiful vineyard on a very hot, glorious day with the chirps of the birds and butterflies flying about. Sounds idyllic doesnt it? Sadly not, I noticed strewn rubble and a broken soil drain by a shed within the field by where we were standing...sadly this was only the start! We carried on with the walking tour and it quickly became apparent that the whole establishment was in need of an overhaul a good tidy up and a few gallons of weedkiller would be a great idea too! Although Nick was very informative, a lot of info was common knowledge and we did not see any production of the products or running machinery. A description of the non running bottling machine was explained, which was a little silly. I can go on Youtube and see one actually running. I say no machines were running there was a very loud tun in the "brewhouse" doing its stuff, do not know what though due to the noise. The brewhouse was small, uncomfortably hot, very noisy, cramped and in my opinion very untidy. It was so loud we could not hear the majority of what our lovely tour guide was saying. It was so hot and restrictive we had to go outside as it was too uncomfortable. It got to the part of the tastings and again in my opinion this too was not the greatest. We were crammed into one of the store rooms along with the boxes on the industrial racking (which was ridiculously hot) where we were introduced to a circle of chairs (that looked like they were set up for an AA meeting) and we tasted the products with the added bonus of 4 cream crackers and a piece of cheese. My wife did mention to me that the only sample that tasted right came from an unopened bottle and the other samples that were decanted were from already opened bottles and they seemed a bit watered down. I do not drink wine and I too noticed this. We were rushed out of the tastings at the end as the tour was running behind so as the "tasting room" could be sorted for the next tour guests so we exited through the very cramped shop to the courtyard. At this point we enquired about our room as check in was at 2.30pm (we were busy on the tour) and it was nearly 4pm. We were informed that someone would take us down soon so we decided to sit in the courtyard and grab a snack and a coffee from the onsite snackvan. Well we would have done if the van had not closed early! We ended up sitting in the blazing heat and opted for a packet of overpriced macaroons from the shop as no food was available on site and we were starving! After about 15 mins we were getting annoyed as we had paid nearly £250 for the room so it was a bit naughty at 4pm(ish) that we were stuck in the blazing sun with no access to our accomodation. Finally we were guided down to the poolhouse (which we only booked as it was the only room left for the date we chose) and it became apparent that the shed I had seen earlier, the one with the exposed soil drain was actually our room. Early indications upon entering the enclosed private area were not too bad but this soon ended. The staff member pointed out the hot tub and pool and emphasized "please cover up after use to try and keep the crud out" and left us to enjoy our stay. Now I am not being negative about everything so it is only fair that I say the poolhouse internally was ok, definitely not "luxury" as stated on the website. The decor was nice as was the layout. A small fridge housed 2 prepaid bottles of ale, a bottle of water and a small quantity of milk, (not enough for 2 drinks each). That was it, the fridge was full! A fan was available but all it did was circulate the unbearable heat. There was also a full Dyson vacuum cleaner in the wardrobe which I think was disgusting. The pool area was a mess and in dire need of repairs. There were weeds growing all over, broken fence, broken steps, muddy slabs, rubbish from previous guests, filthy damaged parasol, and much more (zoom in on pics)it was disgusting. We had paid for the privilege of the pool and hot tub so we thought we would use them, the hot tub was a definite no due to floating dead flies and rusty components and although the pool was refreshing the swimming was shortlived as I nearly swallowed one of the many dead insects floating in the water. I felt ridiculously dirty after the swim so I made my way to the hut gathering mud from the slabs onto my wet feet and had a shower, well a dribble as the water pressure was useless. I put on the (well worn) gown provided but it was way too small, I think it was an XS size, so I dried myself with the small towels. As there is no bar or eating facilities on site we had prebooked (via Chilterns recommendation on the website) a meal at a pub a few miles away as our hosts laid on a "complementary" taxi service, sounds great. We indeed had the "free" taxi to a lovely pub approximately 6 mins away (by car) called the stag and huntsman (I will be leaving a review on their website) located in a beautiful part of the world. Upon entering we had to give our names and we were seated. We had to move outside as there were swarms of flies in our allocated area. We were given our menus and it became apparent very quickly how the taxi was "complementary" as our menus were slightly different to a menu for Joe Public and after doing a few sums it was obvious the taxi price was incorporated into our menu. As stated I will leave a review on the stag and huntsman website as it is not fair doing it via this one but I will say 2 meals, 2 puddings, 2 drinks and 2 sides of chips (1/2 a spud a side) cost us nearly £150 which is ridiculous! We got our "free" taxi back at 9pm and settled for the night, well we tried to! The heat was ridiculous so we had a very bad night, I could not wait to leave. The whole experience was horrible! We headed to the dining area (yes I thought the same!) for our prebooked 8.30am breakfast as we had paid enough for it. Apart from precious memories that we as a couple created the whole visit in my opinion was a very, very expensive mess and it was at this point things turned around slightly. We truly had a perfect dining experience and it took off the bad edge of the trip. Our breakfast host was amazing and although the portion sizes were of limited choice and small portions, she cooked the food to perfection from fresh. As mentioned above she needs recognition and FAO the owners, guys an overhaul and good tidy up would not go amiss. Our daughter bought the voucher for the experience and in all honesty we thought it would be a great night out at your establishment sadly we were wrong! We made good memories and annoyingly it was not because of your hospitality. I have done a few sums, with travel accommodation, food at a ridiculously expensive pub and a few of your ales what we have spent could have paid for 4 nights fully inclusive accomodation at a well known holiday park with entertainment. We had to save for a few months for this experience! We opted for "luxury" with you and it was not there, you may want to take the word off your listing. Believe me, if it was not for the breakfast lady I would be seeking a full refund!
