点评:Our experience of this island was very disappointing. After purchasing tickets someone came over and took our tickets and shepherded us to a nearby desk to book snorkeling equipment. I wish we had not just gone along with it as the company (Swanibu Travel) is USELESS! We paid for snorkeling gear & they make you pay for a life jacket to wear on the boat too! This may be because many people wear these snorkeling as well but seems outrageous to charge IMO.
Their communication was poor and we had to ask and chase them to get us on a boat. The life jackets were all one size but they did go off and get us kids size jackets for our 2 children. The boat ride out there and back was very uncomfortable, the driver's boat handling skills were questionable with some serious banging and slamming. I have spent a lot of time on boats and this is not standard just because it's choppy!
They gave us snorkeling gear on the boat, no asking our sizes and the gear included small adult gear for our kids including a 6 year old. I complained and when we got to the island the guy went off and miraculously found a child size set. Unfortunately I then noticed that the fins were torn at the back (2 of 4 pairs) & one snorkel was completely unusable with the wrong attachment. The company has no representative at the island and I had to pay to hire another one.
Swanibu insisted we catch a 3pm return boat despite being late out there... and then turned up 30 mins late - I had to ask the parks guy to call them and establish their whereabouts.
The island itself /area you can go is relatively small and they pack loads of people onto it. Although the water is mostly clean of rubbish the beach and grass area is not. At one stage a boat pulled right into the snorkelling area and started loading tons of big black rubbish bags into a boat! The reef is mostly dead but there are an ok amount of fish to look at - having said that if you are an experienced snorkeller/diver you will likely be disappointed, it is definitely not the Barrier Reef or Tahiti! Prob ok for a first time experience.
Overall we had an ok day but it was tainted by our experience with the company. Would I go again - no. Would I recommend it... probably not.
Oh, and the ticket office at Jesselton Quay don't make it clear when booking boat tickets that you have to pay another fee when you reach the island! All up about 300-350 myr for a family of four.
