点评:We visited the Museum of Power in April 2024 with two kids. It had been recommended to us by family. We visited on a Thursday - since in school holidays that when they open the miniature railway and miniature village.
The Museum has recently been refurbished (the entrance still smelled of paint) and everything was clean, in order and well maintained. The various steam engines (including one of the large original water pumping engines) were all run intermittently through the day on compressed air. They were very impressive and not too noisy (fine for kids). There were lots of things for kids to interact with, such as moving cutaway combustion engines and a little old fashioned (but working) phone just by the door to the main room. On they day we visited craft activities had been put up for kids as well.
The staff were excellent, very welcoming and engaged. The amount of effort and engagement being put in by staff frankly puts other compatible museums to shame.
The cafe is good and well furnished, with an area open for dogs. There was also picnic seating outside as well as toilets inside and out.
The museum is not massive, with three main rooms. You can probably see most of it in about 1-2 hours.
Outside there is also a model railway and model village which are open on specific days. The model railway was good, consistent with others we have visited, and run by a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers (who also operated the engines in the museum). The model village is a passion project, built by one man over 24 years. It is more a kids entertainment then a scale recreation, but it's fun none the less. The creator was there when we visited and delighted in entertaining the visiting kids - with little quizzes maps and the odd magic trick.
There was also a crafting shed, but we did not visit it.
Overall thus is well worth the visit and great fun for kids. It is worth making the time to go there since it feels something of a hidden gem.
