点评:Fairly challenging hike up to the glacier’s edge, or close to it. Trailhead starts at a picturesque working farm with lots of cows and goats along with a friendly cat. Trail follows along a raging river coming off the mountain. Eventually the trail leads away from the water and heads uphill. There are some parts of the trail that were pretty much washed away and had to be crossed by foot. This is where waterproof sturdy boots would be welcome (which I did not have). The trail becomes very rocky as the elevation gain kicks in, and becomes a boulder field to scramble up and over. There are some ropes, steel chains and ladders to help tackle the more challenging spots. Views of the mountain, glacier and waterfalls are both your motivation and reward when you reach the end. It’s possible to hike further to the glacier itself, but we stopped at the flat area at the top to rest and have a snack.
This hike is indeed strenuous but doable for anyone in good health. Going down was difficult as well, and maybe even harder than going up; your knees won’t be happy. The trail wasn’t too crowded, we did have to wait a few times for groups to tackle the ropes and tricky spots. Plenty of parking to begin with credit card payment required.
