点评:Things will look a little different for some time. During our December 2022 visit, work was underway to address the clobbering Kaanapali took in August. The shoreline drastically changed. Maybe forever? The repair needed is astounding.
The boardwalk walkway along the beach no longer exists in front of the Ali'i (between the Marriott and Whaler's Village). The area had massive erosion and their entire sidewalk disappeared. While we were there, tractors were redistributing sand to replace what was lost when the storm hit. Palm trees fell into the ocean.
And, in the other direction (towards the Hyatt), the beach erosion is massive. The retaining berms planted there are an effort to keep the sidewalks from sliding into the sea. And, continuing along the walk (where it hooks up with the park just past the canoe club), the grass is all dead because drought conditions are unrelenting.
In the meantime, walking to Whaler's Village requires a wide detour up to the street.
We are thankful that the repair work is underway and very thankful that there is still beach to walk on.
