点评:I recently visited Planet Ice IceRink in Gillingham and was extremely disappointed with the experience, especially regarding the lack of clarity and enforcement of disabled parking.
When I arrived at the IceRink, I searched for a disabled bay as I have a disability, but none were available. I ended up parking in a non-disabled bay. While I was parking, my wife went inside to ask at reception if they had designated disability parking. The lady at the reception desk informed her that the disabled bays were located in front of the centre. However, my wife noted that these bays were not clearly marked. The receptionist pointed them out from the desk, but they were already occupied by vehicles not displaying blue badges. This created a frustrating start to our visit.
Meanwhile, my brother, who accompanied us, was at the pay-and-park machine. I eventually went inside to clarify if blue badge holders had to pay. The receptionist assured me that parking was free for blue badge holders in designated bays. I explained that the bays she mentioned were occupied by vehicles without blue badges. She responded that it was fine, and I wouldn’t need to pay if I parked elsewhere as long as I displayed my blue badge, which I did.
After this confusing and disappointing exchange, I chose to sit in the café while my wife, child, brother, and his family enjoyed skating. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when I later received a parking fine. This completely spoiled the evening and left me with a negative impression of Planet Ice. The fine was particularly upsetting given that the staff had assured me I wouldn’t have to pay under these circumstances.
The lack of clear signage for disabled parking, poor enforcement of blue badge regulations, and the conflicting information from staff have left me deeply dissatisfied. I will not be returning to Planet Ice IceRink in Gillingham and cannot recommend it to others, particularly those with disabilities. A venue should prioritise accessibility and ensure its policies are enforced to provide an inclusive and welcoming experience. Sadly, this was not the case here.
