点评:I never knew it existed! We've been to Carlsbad Caverns numerous times. I even lived in Carlsbad for several months. And knew nothing about Rattlesnake Springs. Actually saw it on a map. All the Rangers we chatted with recommended it. Particularly for the birdlife. So we went to see that it was all about.
Quick history. It's a naturally occurring spring that was homesteaded. Then the CCC assisted in turning the spring into a water source for nearby Carlsbad Caverns infrastructure. And they build several buildings.
Off US285 there's a road to the Springs. You first come to a nice picnic area among some very large trees. Walking about 200 yards beyond the picnic area is the Springs. There are a few older buildings - a house and a pump station and the Springs. They've been made into a rectangular pond with a number of canals branching out.
Didn't see much birdlife (wrong time of the year). But a nice visit nonetheless.
