Highly Informative Visit to Ephesus with Rtaner Kara

点评：Our private tour guide, the very outgoing Rtaner Kara was waiting for us at Starbucks as we disembarked our cruise ship, even though we were about 15 minutes early. Introductions were made and we headed out to meet up with our driver & spacious van. Rtaner (Tanner for short) joined us the in rear of the van, clarified our desires and expectations for the afternoon and provided an overview of the areas we drove through on the way to Ephesus.
At Ephesus, Rtaner's understanding and love for the site became clear. He provided an overview of the site and then an in-depth monologue on each area as we arrived at them. He successfully navigated between the two in the group who wanted to see and know everything and the two who had a lesser interest. He maneuvered us, as much as possible, around the larger tour groups so we could see ruins up close. Did we miss some things? Of course, but time is limited and I feel we certainly saw more and understood more than the folks in the large groups. Rtaner guided two in our group through the Terrace Houses, which was wonderful.
The only negative, would be from the viewpoint of those in our group with limited interest. After touring the main site, Rtaner walked us to two other ruins on the property along a somewhat busy drive with large buses. They were uncomfortable with the walk and had no interest in seeing the ruins. Perhaps they should have been offered another option.
For those who really want to see and understand Ephesus, I would recommend this company and Rtaner Kara.
