Rutherglen Wine Bottle的点评
点评：You can see the wine bottle for miles out of town... and you have to wonder what it is... curiosity and all. As you drive towards it you will realise that it may not quench your thirst after a day in the office, but the size of the bottle is getting close to what you will need to relax after a stressful day. :)
Once you are there, you can appreciate the view looking back out over the area... and then of course, there is a large bottle to understand. This is the tower for the water trust ... it was completed in 1900. It is 117 feet tall, and 30 feet in diameter ( see what I mean... it's getting close to the size of a bottle you need after a stressful work day).
It started life as a water tower, bringing water from the Murray River to the township... and for awhile it was the only consistent water supply for the town. In 1945 a reservoir was constructed and this tower was taken out of service in the 1960s.
But in 1967... they were focussed on tourism in Rutherglen and the wine festival committee had an idea. 💡 And this is where the wine bottle came into being... it is now a landmark for the town.
It's a lovely thing to see whilst visiting the town and as stated... it's more than just a wine bottle... it's a bit of a lookout for the area as well.
