Amazing custom private hiking tour

点评：We planned a custom private tour with Real Tours Costa Rica and had an amazing day hiking the Las Pailas trail in Rincon de la Vieja and La Leona waterfall. I was surprised so few tours go to La Leona from Dreams Las Mareas and even fewer actually go inside the national park and was happy to find Real Tours who made both happen in one day, about 7 am to 6 pm. Las Pailas trail had exciting volcanic activity like mudpots rivaling what I'd seen in Yellowstone in the U.S. but felt extra special as we went in and out of the dry rainforest with no parking lots in sight. La Leona waterfall was one of the most memorable few hours I've spent traveling: wading, swimming, jumping, and climbing in and around the beautiful blue river and waterfalls. I was still impressed with the strong current in places during the dry season and would not try this hike during rainy season or with high water. Our guide Maria Emilia was friendly and was especially great on the Las Pailas trail and fixing a minor issue (we had been told water was provided but it was not, so she picked up water bottles for us). For La Leona waterfall I would have appreciated a little more proactive guiding because of its adventurous nature, making sure we had instructions of what was coming next for each section and that all in our group of 11 could hear. But overall she worked well as a team with the Finca Don Ramon waterfall guide and we enjoyed this amazing place.
For a private tour the value was pretty incredible. I appreciated Ulf being responsive as we planned it and handling everything that came up. I liked knowing we had a tour planned before our trip rather than waiting to connect with tour operators there, so having a website, Facebook page, and email communication was crucial. I am so happy I got to go to the places I wanted to go without having to rent vehicles and with a little extra info from having a guide. Thank you, Real Tours!
