点评:All Saints church was founded in the mid-10th century but the main body of the church as it stands today is Georgian, the rebuilding of which was completed in 1725.
In 1927 the parish church status was promoted to that of a cathedral. Inside it was very light and airy but plain, the austere interior being offset by a wrought iron chancel screen extending across the entire width of the church. It was made by a local blacksmith called Robert Bakewell.
Also in the cathedral is a monument with effigy of Bess of Hardwick.
Volunteer Embroiderers were busy sewing when we arrived and it was fascinating to see what work they were doing and to hear about restorations they had done for other cathedrals around the country. These ladies are so talented and an absolute treasure for the cathedral!
There is a Bishops Seat that has been made by up-cycling artefacts from the Middle East that had been acquired on the first bishop's travels and brought back.
On top of the cathedral there was a nest for a pair of Peregrine falcons but alas not sitting on it when we viewed the spycam.
