Very Disappointing Visit

点评：I have been to Petworth House before and found the experience a very pleasant one.. however, this last week I went and was very disappointed. We were fumbling around trying to find change for the parking machine, unaware (as there was no notice informing anyone) that you could pay for parking at the entrance kiosk. Not all the rooms were open because we were told there was a lack of volunteers that day?! No reduction in price for this. The rooms containing paintings and furniture were very dusty; some or the ornate frames were SO dusty and the marble side tables and lacquered cabinets. When I mentioned I found them so to a guide, her retort was "Then stop walking on the carpets"???!!! How rude. Perhaps if the carpets were hoovered on a regular basis there would not be such a problem and the wooden floors cleaned. We were told that each room was cleaned from top to bottom once a year??!! Seriously this is not enough and not good for the protection of the pieces. We are not talking restoration here, just basic cleaning! I am a private housekeeper for HNWI who have many rare and priceless pieces of furniture, sculptures and porcelain and these pieces are cleaned regularly with the utmost care as are the Persian rugs and marble floors. The cafe was untidy with cluttered tables and lacking required cups and saucers, whilst the staff stood behind the counter chatting. The public corridors and doors connecting the rooms that were open were dull, paintwork was chipped and shabby. Outside quite frankly the flower borders were boring with very little autumn planting. I had told my Sister she would love it there and quite honestly she was underwhelmed.
