点评:We visited Chester House Estate expecting to enjoy their advertised Christmas market, which was promoted as running across several weekends in December. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment.
There was no real sign of a Christmas market at all. We were later told that the “market” consisted of the wooden chalets along the main path — however, the majority of these were closed. Unless you were visiting Father Christmas, there was very little to see or do.
The main hall, where the Christmas market had previously been held a few years ago, was closed and appeared neglected and uncared for. Many of the small independent shops that once gave the site some character (such as Saxbys) have long since disappeared.
The estate feels as though it has passed its heyday. It’s fortunate that entry is free, as we certainly wouldn’t have been happy paying an entrance fee for the experience offered today.
This is such a shame, as Chester House Estate has great potential, but it currently feels run down, poorly maintained, and overly focused on money-making activities rather than providing a genuinely enjoyable visitor experience.
