点评：I've been going to this air show since 1976. Quite simply, it's the best there is in the UK. I'll agree that, some years, the content can vary, yet overall I never cease to be impressed at what I see. Of late my wife and I go on the Friday. This tends to be less crowded, although the air show isn't so long, and one par of the static park is closed off as aircraft are still arriving. That said, I still feel that I get value for money, especially as I buy my tickets for the next show as soon as they go on sale.
I've been a confirmed military spotter for over 50 years. This show set the gold standard almost from the off, although the shows lately are smaller that the glory days of the '70's and '80's. However, air forces across the world are shrinking, along with the numbers of types available to display. This year's RIAT will go down as a classic show, celebrating 50 years of the F16 and Tornado, along with 100 years of the Canadian air force. The weather was superb, unlike the continuous rain of 2023. The shortened flying display was very good, especially the flypast to celebrate 75 years of NATO, which was a Friday only event.
I appreciate that others may have a different view, when I see reports of poor toilet facilities and massive queues. Like any big event getting 75,000 people in and out is going to be interesting. However, readers need to remember that the vast majority of the staff on site are volunteers who giev up their free time to run what is, inmy opinion, the best military air show in the world.
