点评:My poor rating is not a reflection of the quality of the artworks on display, some of which were interesting and skilfully executed.
My problem is with paying £9 per adult for such a tiny exhibition of artworks with such a narrow range of artistic styles. We had looked at everything within half an hour.
Laughably, in the entrance lobby, the first things to meet the eye are boxes festooned with pleas for a £5 donation. There's no easily visible reference to the compulsory £9 ticket, so we were temporarily under the impression that the donation was the sole fee. I don't think that was just us being dim and, in fact it did appear to be causing a degree of confusion, generally. Fortunately, I wouldn't make a donation until I'd seen what it is I was donating to but I wonder how many people have fallen for that and ended up paying £14 for an exhibition that would be overpriced at a fiver.
I wish I could take the highbrow stance and be happy simply to have financially supported 'the arts' but sadly, many of us do have to think about cost. Having spent £45 on a half-hour visit that we had imagined would absorb us for the whole morning, it promised to be a pricey day. Not all of us who enjoy art can afford to be as philosophical as we'd like to be.
