点评:In order to help our children continue to learn during the summer and do something other than watch tv- we visited the Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site. Located in a nice neighborhood in Fairway, we arrived when they opened on a Saturday at 10am. Parking was easy- theres a lot designated for the site, and the employee working at the site was extremely friendly and helpful. The museum itself was very informative and interesting, and it was interesting enough to keep my two sons engaged. (Ages 5 & 8 years old.). It was not busy at all. The employee advised that they have school groups come through, so while there are a lot of informative exhibits that would interest adults, there are interactive exhibits for children as well. It was interesting to our children to learn that many years ago entire families would live in a one-room log house together (and one of the exhibits was how that would look and what would be inside it.) There was also a scavenger hunt that the boys completed on the outside of the site, where there are paths to walk to the other two buildings (which were closed, but you could walk on the porches of.) We spent a total of an hour at the site. Definitely recommend if you are looking for an informational and low-cost (they recommend a donation to keep the museum open) summer activity for children.
